The guy who made that has some serious talent. Have a goo at his other videos. The stuff he makes as a piss-take is actually lightyears better than the cringe-inducing c/rap that usually comes from these shores(see Nialler9). Much like a more acerbic Flight of the Conchords now that I think of it.

It's one thing to stand on a stage, acoustic in hand, and strum along to a repetitive pedestrian arrangement of G, D and A, turning it into something mildly humourous. It's the easy-laugh route. Nothing wrong with that, it can be made to work, it's just not on the level!

It really is another to really put all of yourself out there to be judged and produce synth-laden, musically aware, creative masterpieces with genius lyrics and a hilarious video which probably involves you directing and acting. Ye can't really just shrug it off as an-off-the-cuff improv. It lives or dies on your ability and efforts, as Tom O C found out. As Julian Casablancas finds out in this appalling interview, maybe it would be better to have joined Travis and be an inoffensive non-entity than bother having ambition and vision. It doesn't win you friends, it's a highrisk game and people like dryadssaddle above should be actively encouraged to showcase their talents and not fear the Tim Jonze's of this world who will discredit you based on your suitablility to be interesting article fodder.

On the subject, I heard Eoghan Kidney won best video for his FLApes video last night. I'm going to assume it's the Tie Me Up With Jackets clip. Well deserved. A genuinely unique and revolutionary landmark in Irish video production.

Jim Carroll's beyond excellent On The Record blog has given Shane "B.S." Fitzgerald's article airtime. Yeah, after reading that you might cop what B.S. stands for. (It's bullshit).

And with that, I couldn't stop myself giving my raging off-the-cuff two-cents (i.e. rant) in the comments section; see number 45. I have a right to be bitter, he's sullying my name! That's my job!

I genuinely fear they're grooming him to have some sort of role in the IT (-which I have really grown to like), over the coming years. Which kinda means I'll have to alter my name or get a brand new one. This isn't the first run in and I would expect it won't be the last. Well, truth be told the first run-in was actually when he took my seat at an exam. I was pretty screwed for that one so I figured it was win-win.

Onwards and upwards I say so I am now taking suggestions for a new name. The first of which being Shane X. Fitzgerald.

You could say it makes me look like an intellectual, an X-Man or my that my middle name is Xavier. Or my middle name could simply be pronounced; "ten"? It could be construed that I'm a head of the Black Panthers. Each as likely as the last, of course...

I already have a few aliases* that aren't really conventional, and I think I might prefer that sense of "alternative". Ye know, death to the old-world, bring on year zero and an end to the code of manners! FREAK OUT SUM SQUAREZZ!!1

I am not a eurosceptic. I love the idea of the EU. The idealist in me doesn't like its form. An imperfect union. I voted No twice because I'm not willing to accept an awful treaty and my EU being born out of lies and deception. Or being powerless to stop Blair becoming President, the first no less. (Mary would be excellent). However, I follow it intently hoping every day Brussel's legislators will provide us with what our own clowns were too inept or corrupt to give us.

Does "euronationalism" actually exist though? I've always seen nationalism as a seductive drug that provides romantic yet shallow answers and ultimately makes everything worse. 'Tis the ultimate source of irrationality and non-reason. Teenagers usually pick up on it. Idiots never drop it. It thoroughly regresses humanity and is a backward step in evolution/progress.

Lately though, in all my self-righteous efforts to "rise above" domestic nationalism and utter contempt for the Yes side, I have come to think that I absent-mindedly transfered that seemingly inherent and primal urge for romantic nationalism to the next step up. Namely, the wider clan that is Europe. Or maybe it's the desire to construct a more outrospective demos in the global world. I could argue against myself all day.

Does Euronationalism exist? If not, why are we not clambering for some sort of meaningful union with similar advanced liberal democracies like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, USA etc? And any other country that reaches such a level. Many countries are using the argument(there are many other reasonable ones) that Turkey is not "European" so they're not allowed in. Why is the political system still evolving tribally? NAFTA, ASEAN, EU, MERCOSUR. It's cheaper, easier to fly to New York than it is to say Turkey and we do more trade with North America than we do with the rest of Europe combined iirc. Only difference is they are to our left and Turkey is to our right.

Yet Capital/Capitalists run the world and were the first class to become truly global citizens. Heck they don't see race, religion, nationalisms, cultural divides when they move a factory to China etc.

It might have been practical at the time in the 50s to start a regional bloc, but is it perpetual/kinetic energy and not rationality that keeps it going? UN parliament, global freetrade(for those ready), free travel, global min wage, global rights, global interest rate, currency and corporation tax? Surely energies put into speculation would be forced to work on innovation and actual productivity instead of well, profits from and for gambling. (Oh wait, did I just find my answer??). FDI into Ireland has shown that Capital flow is not toward the best or brightest countries but the cheapest whore.

Really, I'm just trying to provoke debate here. I understand practicality is more than an answer for most of my ponderments. Earth in 2009 is a Global village though. Barriers are 9 times out of 10 a relic and humanity, I believe, can achieve anything... eventually. Unfortunately, it's also prone to being human. None but ourselves can free our mind! END/RANT

If It's Big Enough to Give You Everything You Want...

Whuzzah!

Got a swift new toolbar at the bottom of the page there. I'm not sure what extra functionality it provides just yet but I do like collecting garbage on the site. In some completely irrational way of thinking, I see it as eventually adding to the character of the page. The character of the page being such an oversight for so many. And, for wise or for other, I go in for change almost for it's own sake. Like a headless chicken's way of making quick progress and experiencing as much as possible. Voraciously!

Spraaching of technology and other nerdisms, I finally understand "apps".

I got Google Chrome -again almost for the sake of change. It was with a heavy heart that I left Firefox and one day I will return. It has that socialistic ethos that I swoon for. But if Chrome stays so far ahead of the game I can't be sure of when that return will be.

To put it in context I see it as web3.0. Or maybe it just completes what web2.0 set out to do. It's all semantics anyway! But it was designed specificially to have the look and feel of a windows explorer window with what I initially saw as some vague aim to make the web more of an OS. Very futurist sounding. A marketing ploy perhaps. On the technical side I find that it crashes far less than Firefox used to, and even if a site makes it freeze, only that one tab does and not the whole browser.

Then on Tuesday I spotted an option to "create application shortcut". It basically creates a desktop icon that goes straight to that website and has no address bar so it feels like you are manouevering around a program. My desktop is now full of radio links, google doc links and Youtube is like my media player. Deezer feels like Spotify! Useful since the gravy train ended. I guess "links" is the wrong word to use and so maybe that's why they're called "apps". Sense at last! Either the word "program" should become obsolete or they should have just called them programs because by giving it a different name it doesn't normalise the new approach in our minds. I read that "apps" will be bigger than the internet. That is poor journalism. Nothing can be bigger than the internet, especially apps as it IS the internet! Or rather a method of accessing the it.

All in all it's all part of my ongoing strategy to put everything on the interweb cloud so I can be a "rootless tree". I can't say I'm comfortable with every solution seeming to be coming from Google. Even right now the browser I'm using is Google, as is this blog. Maybe Google will become a generic term for the internet? First step is making it into the dictionary right? If Karl Marx had a 21st century manifesto, have times changed sufficiently that he would advise to nationalise the commanding heights of the internet as well? Nationalise Google? lol . (Briefly, in good news; webs independence was assured this week I think I read. Link?)

Passively, I'm helping to contribute to a new-ish monolithic corporation that will surely be the mandateless mega power-wielding dinosaur of tomorrow. Where are all the independent solutions? Or have Google just shrewdly hoovered them up and repackaged them as their own? I'd like to call myself a pioneer(though that would be untrue), but it really is just for practicality's sake with the impending death of my laptop and the irrational desire to replace it with an iPhone or Android phone... which I can in no way afford. Yet.

On the Frontline

Well.

I had to indulge in some boozing last night so I missed it's premiere showing. I would say, after watching it on RTEPlayer, that Frontline's debut showing was by all accounts a success. Excellently researched and conducted. Is it possible Pat Kenny may yet redeem himself after soiling The Late Late throne on a weekly basis for so many years???

Frontline is quite a bit more sensationalist than it's predeccesor Q&A, but then again it was about NAMA so anything less would have been an insult to the seriousness of the issue. (Society shouldn't let itself continue sleep-walking through this crisis). We'll have to wait and see how it applies itself to the more mundane topics. It really did fly-by at breakneck speed and you have to wonder how that tempo and adrenaline could be maintained on, say, the next priest scandal. You can see it calming down a bit and Pat getting a bit more use out of his chair. Is it actually live?

More specificially, I lapped up the content. After the constant stream of one-sided guff we have been fed about this NAMA-or-nothing bull and how we are to be saved by these same politicians and the banksters, a lot of common sense was delved out. This country really needs to vent it's anger like that. I'd like to imagine that was just the initial jets of steam piercing it's way through the fissures before the the old world finally explodes in a fireball of charred FF chronies and small-minded small-town playboys (see bankers, businessmen, builders).

The leftwing nut in me is thinking maybe it was a statesman-like attempt by Mr Kenny and his colleagues to get the people agitated about this insanity. There was a time, afterall, when elements in RTE sided against the establishment. Then again, he is a broadcaster and I don't think there is a person in the country who wouldn't have bought into last night's approach.

It was basically 50mins of that bankster and the builders lobby head being ravaged by a Dunphy-O'Toole led angry mob. The tone was set when Dunphy immediately pointed out that the bankster is an ex-FF czar and the builders fed man, Tom Parlon, is an ex-PD! I knew Tom Parlon's history but that somehow he AND an ex-FF man shared the stage in that context in those roles is just incredible. Talk about your incestuous complicit scum!

My only complaint was that nobody managed to land that killer blow on Brian "Einstein" Lenihan (though he did dodge an Arthur-Morganesque q from O'Toole) particularly after all the excellent points made throughout the show. Kenny at the end smelling blood put it to Lenihan that he could be remembered as the man that, effectively, collapses the first Republic. Something that surely weighs heavy on him in fairness, but, would it be the worst thing?

Good start anyway Frontline. Vinny Browne will have to start thinking about watching his back.

Blogger has been acting up on Firefox all day and it takes me until 3am to realise I can try it on IE!

Anyway, this morning I bring you Hardy Bucks. It's probably apt that I'm watching Trailer Park Boys on Comedy Central as I post this. Really and truly it has taken that format and adapted it to Castletown, County Mayo. It's even loaded with Irish-style Rickyisms. Big shtyle.

I think they entered a competition on RTE to get their show on the telly months back, that it seems wasn't succesful. Eyebrowy, Langerland kind of background/approach. I'm not sure if they're still making it, but they are obviously a naturally funny bunch. The Viper the funniest, original, indiginous, Irish character since... D'Unbelievables or Fr Ted before that? (Correct me if I'm forgetting someone).

Jamie Stirs his T

Seems Jamie T is finally beginning to stir this year.

After his universally well-received debut album Panic Prevention way back when in January 2007, he did a good bit of touring, including an excellent set at Oxegen. Seemingly always excellent live. Had he the world at his feet?

Since then, however, all has been quiet apart from hearing about the odd show in a London club or remix here or there. Emerging periodically in his forums, which are a supposedly a treasure trove for remixes. His battles with addiction probably common knowledge by this stage. He had become a character from one of his own songs practically.

Is it ridiculous to hypothesise that in only joining Twitter and Facebook in the last few weeks that the 23 year old next-big-thing of only 2 years ago had already fallen behind the times? Or is it more damning evidence of his self-inflicted hibernation, contrasting further with the current thawing process?

Jerking into life in 2009, he released a single in January called "Fire Fire" (free download from website), which he said was an apology to fans/a thank you for the patience of those waiting for him to get his act together.

He's playing all the big festivals in England alongside his own tour. Glastonbury, Leeds, Reading, T in The Park. Fingers crossed he'll nip over here at some stage this summer, doubtful at this stage though. There's also an EP due in the next fortnight called Sticks'N'Stones, with lead single;

A recent, decent remix of a Florence and the Machine track(and rumours of an album track collaboration), a nationwide tour and the impending announcement of an upcoming new full length album dubbed "Kings and Queens" means that Jamie T is back with a... bluh!

This is an odd post.

It is about the glorious hypothetical union that had existed in my mind this week between Mike Tyson and Neil "Razor" Ruddock.

Found my way over to some Mike Tyson quotes, which, if he had never participated in any sport, would more than validate his existence on this planet. Exhibit A;

Really and honestly there is only so much "context" can explain. It did get me thinking, though, about who I thought was this "Razor Ruddock". What exactly did these two get up to when the lights went dark? I remembered reading about Razor from internet excerpts of Stan Collymore's biography. (Collymore's scandals himself warrant their own post some day.)

Anyway, I googled to see if there was a meeting, romantic or otherwise, of these two titans of ridiculousity (Tysonism??) and it turned out there was a beast of a boxer called Razor Ruddock in the early 90s that Tyson... boxed. My heart sank as quickly as it had raised only 30 minutes earlier.

One would count him part of the Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen stable thats taken the baton from the Will Ferrell-ite school of red-top frat boy teen-comedies. I'm pretty damn angry.

I've never really gotten the whole American thing that they complain about tv shows getting canceled. Before the Youtube era, I'd never been involved in the embryonic development of a new show on the telly. Usually it only made it across the water if they were going to make it succesful anyway. No matter how terrible it is. Yes I am talking to you Desperate Housewives. Ugly Betty. The Hills. Grey's Anatomy. 90210. Big Bang Theory. Prison Break. 24 got repetitive and pointless a few series ago. Even Lost has just become a parody of itself.

I'm sure House is rubbish too, and I'm sure Hugh Laurie doesn't give a daaaamn about that either. He might see selling out and spoon feeding Americans tripe as the only way of getting recognised. Fair play to him for it. Scrubs, despite having a full farewell series and an amazingly over soppy final ever episode is somehow getting yet another series.

Its one thing to put or keep these shows on the telly. Its quite ANOTHER to cancel possibly the best new thing on the telly since Flight of the Conchords' series on HBO found us, to find the room for a new one of these awful shows! Looks like FoTC only ended because they didn't want to drag it out 'til it became rubbish. A noble and difficult choice. One I can tolerate, however, as Black Books et al chose a similar path once they ran their creative course.

To strike Reaper down in it's prime is nothing short of malice. It was never given a fair chance. Every episode had to move a hundred miles an hour, pretty big character turnover. Potential new arc's looming at every turn which all gives it an addictive quality. There's never really a lull in the series because a storyline doesnt interest you. All a glorious indirect result of network executives demanding shakeup after shakeup craving ever larger audiences. When really now is that time that comes along every 5 or so years where a new generation of shows needs to take on the baton. Not smothered at birth.

That aside it has thrived under these conditions, because the genius writers never run out of ideas. Everything is hilarious. What you wouldn't expect from what can nearly be seen as a frat-boy comedy, though, is that every episode uses clever and astute motifs aswell. Refreshingly it doesn't even consider slapstick or canned laughter. Everything is well thought out. Excellent accessible characters with substance to them. The Devil is played brilliantly by Ray Wise. Seductively convincing and assured, together with everything you'd expect a Devil character to be. Anybody who watched Reaper's less laidback forerunner Buffy the Vampire Slayer will recognise Sam's actor as a onetime bit part character, so there's pedigree one could say. Tyler Labine keeps the show ticking along, and Rick Gonzalez comes into his own in series 2 when his own unique humour flourishes. Unlike Buffy though, it only pays lipservice to any arc, and episodes can easily be watched in isolation. Its all just epic. If we all watch it now it might just get a DVD resurrection!

Actually therein lies a source of ridiculousness. The gig is up. Ready yourself. My name is not actually rdlp715, it is Shane Fitzgerald. An observant one at that. I've noticed in my time at UCD there was atleast one other Shane Fitzgerald in my year. Took my seat at an exam once.

I had set up a Facebook last year just for the sake of it, alas it didn't really get my motor running. One day all of a sudden it started getting inundated with friend requests and messages of support. Which I didn't initialy notice, not checking my UCD mail all that often, usually out of fear.

Then BAM!

Phonecall from the Indo on the mobile. Was half asleep so it was a rude "What? No, not me. G'night". Got a few phonecalls from journalists asking for interviews, mainly facebook mails though. The English Indo, The Star amongst others. Some poor SU head from Ljubilana, Slovenia who wanted me to write an article for their end of year handbook. A Portugueuse journalist from "Diário de Notícias" wanted an over-facebook interview aswell. How easy are these people's jobs?!

It was put to me to take advantage of this. False-quote the false-quoter. Get an interview published full of bull and then call them on THAT aswell. "Yes, that's right. I invented the question mark." The scent of irony was delicious. However, an American I've come into acquaintance through all this advised against, saying the guy could get the sack. Not worth it.

You see the Shane Fitzgerald they were looking for was also a UCD Arts student, and correspondance back from one of the journalists informed me that there are in fact THREE of us in UCD Arts. I am the only one who was on Facebook so I took the brunt of the media hysteria.

The most ridiculous thing is how this all became such big news. This wiki-meddling has been done many times before over the years. Indeed they're changing the structure to have registered peer editors to stop such messers. Also, the Shane Fitzgerald lad also got his own wiki entry for a day or two before it was deleted for being, well, pointless. I'd bet my last few cent that it was actually done by him, maybe the only person with the ego for it.

Saying that though many people have congratulated me(thinking its him) as a hero. Utter dumbassery. A man, a legendary French composer dies, and his eulogy, covering his life is known globally as the vehicle hijacked by some bored kid who fancied pulling a prank.

Anyway it all quietened down, and after exams and such I returned home to C-Bridge for first time in about a month. Only to find theres ANOTHER one of us running for election here! And hes in the Greens! The people who want us to Prius our poverty and inequality away. Shake a stick of homegrown celery at the Catholic Church maybe? He ran a few years ago and now I have one of his election posters which the lads superglued a picture of my drunk face on to. Its damn frightening when you see it coming in at night. Its all been kinda like when Jim Carrey's character copped on in The Truman Show.

I have a genuine question though for anyone able to answer. This triggered a massive freakout on how they got my contact info. Is it illegal for a journalist to ring up UCD asking for my details and be allowed my mobile phone number?

I'd say I need a new alias, but I've got like 10 already. Prizes to whoever can amass them all.

Now. If my abacus is trustworthy, this is PintofUnspecific's 50th post. Been very sparse lately, wont use exams as an excuse, so its been first real dry patch since conception. Not that we're usually covered in... wet-patches? Needlessly disgusting and vulgar is a strong theme here lol

Progress report so. Started this as vent/somewhere to put the ridiculous trove of interesting crap I find on the web. Somewhere can exercise writing where its not a chore. Then February-ish alot of established bloggers suddenly finished up. Figured was the right time to give it a bash. Had been following blogs for, could say about 4 years. Really proper for the last nearly 2. Favourites/ones who inspired were Unarocks, RickO'Shea, TwentyMajor, Mulley, mp3hugger, OnTheRecord. What I still notice/makes me feel thick is that just when I think I know who the main blogs are, there is always a whole extra blogoverse.

Out of the blue near beginning there was Luncheon Roll giving us a shout. Then after the stampede of traffic to Irish blogs after RP was linked, the guru himself Rick O'Shea gave us a mention. Absolutely humbling. Very soon after, the daddy, Mr Mulley himself included us in his regular excellent fluffy links. Props to mp3hugger who I emailed before and after created this on advice for blog. His quick off-the-cuff review was hilarious;

Whirlwind romance with bloggery! Everyone in the blogosphere very welcoming, thought it'd be a hard clique to crack, really isn't. The new media really is open to everyone. Hopefuly now with a summer of probable unemployment ahead of me, the blog will really kick on. PofU 2.0

Thoughts on the actual blog itself? Right now its too general and needs to specialise more. Theres been football news, political rants, stoned ramblings, music reviews, absolutely ridiculous state of affairs. Self-restraint needs to be exercised more. I think I'll set up an extra music specific blog to channel that, maybe not. This will make interesting reading looking back in a few years when it becomes some sort of cooking blog or something cant even imagine! One of the hobbies of mine is looking back on original years old posts bloggers did in the day, similar to this then seeing it evolve and progress. Half recall few great ones on Unarocks, think there was one that said "I'm liking this band Arcade Fire, listen out for them, their my tip, can go all the way, debut album next year". Had a minefield of great predictions actually.

Appearance wise, I've realised that wordpress should have been the way to go. I've been told as much by fellow bloggers, that the template here is terrible lol. There isn't even a specific banner, not very unique at all. Unfortunately I do not know how so until I do this will remain some sort of test-run blog, or atleast thats how I view it/explain away its shortcomings lol. Also I've this thing where I don't proper tag posts, just put a random associated fun sounding word. This is beginning to stockpile at the bottom of the page and one day I'll have to sort it out... reluctantly.

The blog has also finally made me appreciate the point of Twitter. Before I was very much left cold by the idea of saying what you are doing every 5minutes. Never utilised it that way at all. Whole new world of, for lack of a better word, awesomeness! Been able to communicate with different people in new ways. Brings new people into reading blogs and that.

Found myself skipping essays and that instead just writing excessively large posts on stuff that interests me (and I don't have to footnote). Skipping readings by just reading the never ending web library, again on things that interest me. Never realised blogging could be so addictive or time consuming. Blogs are like heroin, that make the internet so much better and the sphere of my brain that makes me take bad medicine has been completely neglected. I'm expecting it to blow up in my face any day now, its not gonna be pretty. But by fuck will it have been worth every overly long bloaty blogpost that I know is terrible but dont care.

My biggest source of frustration though, is it turns out that 95percent of traffic the blog gets is because I inadvertently linked a globally popular picture of a monkey. Nothing to do with it being decent. What can ye do but laugh?

Looks like the brave shipmen of the good ship Pirate Bay have been slapped with a 4million-ish euro fine and a year in prison. Well and truly a modern showtrial, the media circus and the powers that be had long since decided the outcome. Nobody makes fools of the major media. Nobody!

Or rather, that was what the dinosaurs desired. In actual fact, the people at Pirate Bay have seen this as just one giant piss-take.

“Stay calm - Nothing will happen to TPB, us personally or file-sharing whatsoever,” says brokep. “This is just a theater for the media.”

“Really, it’s a bit LOL,” he added. “It used to be only movies, now even verdicts are out before the official release.”

The outcome, if not predicatable enough, was leaked the night before. Really the entire charade is just a message to the pirating industry. "Don't fuck with us".

Of course their entire case against these are bogus. Pirate Bay isn't even the biggest torrent search engine. A search engine that links to coyrighted material? I challenge them to find a single search engine that doesnt. Can guarantee we won't be seeing Google executives going to prison for it.

Again, blinded by greed, the relics in charge of Universal, Warner, whomever, fail to see that they cannot stop progress. At every turn their plans to keep their music safe from theives has backfired.

Tapedecks could only eventually be beaten by offering better quality CDs. Making CD burners illegal in the 90s just led to a lucrative black market and before long they gave up the futile fight. The case of Sony putting spyware on their CDs uploaded to user's PCs along with the content resulted in massive law suits. Their attempts to shutdown Kazaa, Shareaza, Napster back in the day forced the pace of the evolution of torrent downloading. The farce of DRM might be the most obvious example.

To counter filesharing, mp3 players would be locked to playing licensed content. Upon release, Microsoft's Zune wouldn't even play Microsoft's own music, ironically, entitled "play for sure". Belatedly the music industry has copped that people don't like DRM or anything like it. A progression in the last 18 months to sell DRM-free music has actually seen massive rises in legit music sales online. Surely that makes no sense in the major label dogma? Next they'll want to lock us up for playing the songs ourselves on our guitars no less!

Now the pursuit against torrents is just quickening the pace of its own evolution/alternatives. Things like IPREDator, advanced proxy settings and port forwarding allow you to be completely anonymous in downloading/uploading.

Instead the companies should have worked with the torrents or p2p filesharers at a point where they could co-operate and the technology would be undercontrol in a fair way that there would be no incentive to force the pace. It is these pirates whom are ten-times more likely to purchase music. Legal actions like these only serve to alienate them from their entire customer-base further driving the will to download illegally almost out of spite.

Word-of-mouth has been known as the best sales technique in punk/indie circles for generations. How often have you been awakened/introduced to a band by a rousing rendition of a bands song by your mate on guitar? "Billy" downloads the new Green Day single and shares it with 9 of his friends. All 10 end up loving it and going to the gig. For a loss of 99c on iTunes, Green Day earns 10 tickets @ 50 euro each. Independent artists never expect to make much, if any, money at all on music sales. Do not believe what they say, iTunes is not an income source for artists. Major artists make absolute fortunes on tours and merchandising anyway. How much do they need? The only person you are "fucking over" are the millionaires at the top.

At the end of the day, on appeal, the "Pirate Bay Four" will have a massively reduced sentence/fine if any. The proof of the pudding of this whole ridiculous process is that the Pirate Bay is still alive and kicking and the increased media exposure has given it a 9.5percent increase in site traffic.

The idiocy of the record company executives is unfathomable. Survival of the fittest; adapt and prosper or die out like the dinosaurs they have consistently shown themselves to be. Isn't that what capitalism is all about?

Forget all about the ineptitude of the FAI or the not as glamouress aspect of the League of Ireland.

When all is said and done, it is our own league, our players and our clubs and when that is kept at the principle of any solution, anything can and should be overcome.

It is our moral duty to give a shout out to the reported woes at Cork City FC and beg people to show support in whatever way they can. They are a fantastic club, with fantastic players, fantastic fans, fantastic stadium... but absolutely useless owners.

A venture capital firm bought Cork in 2007 with the idea of building a state of the art 20,000 seater stadium and monopolising the Irish Champions League spot and all the moneys that comes with it. Becoming our Rosenborg, essentially. However, mid 2008, they literally said "nuts to this" upped and left the country reneging on all sorts of legal agreements and guarantees.

They ended up going through the administration process, sacking a load of staff and players and eventually coming through the other side and left in the hands of a local Cork businessman.

However, this latest turn for the worse, a tax bill catching up with them, means they will not be allowed into administration again and will go straight to the wall. I'm not sure how long they have, or if even these reports are completely accurate. But its symptomatic of the league as a whole and a rallying cry for all to try and support their local team if they can. Almost literally anyone could be next.

Taking over from Gaybo would always be a tall order. Many believed he'd struggle to make his mark. Yet, make his mark he did. A great big smoking crater-like mark.

A man so clearly lacking in charisma following up probably the most charismatic presenter we've ever had. Almost everything said or done was like watching a train crash in slowmotion, partially because he moves and speaks in slo-mo.

Flight Canceled?

I don't know this for sure. It certainly isn't a fact. And I definitely haven't researched this one bit.

However, while watching the last episode of series 2 of Flight of the Conchords, it definitely seemed like an end to the whole show. Sudden enough too. I wont spoil the plot for anyone, but thats the vibe I got from it.

Granted the first season was better, but thats the norm with any show!

Isn't this usually the sign that a show has been canceled?

Does anyone have any idea whats going on with the future of the show? Concentrating on liveshows perhaps in America with their new mainstream audience?

I have recently rediscovered a show I used to be very fond of when I was a child. The animation was crude and not much ever happened in it but for some reason I found it fucking hilarious! I am talking about home movies, a dialogue driven cartoon about a group of 8 year old film makers. The thing is I have been unable to find a another single person (apart from my brother) who finds it funny or even remembers it!

Am I alone in my opinion on this show?? Are there any fans of the show out there???? Do any of ye actually give a crap?!?

Anyway I would like to know if anyone shares my love for this particular cartoon, and you can tell me if you think I am an idiot....... I appreciate honesty.

Spotted the excellent Swear I'm Not Paul throwing up the Pete Doherty buying an Oasis album clip earlier. Shpose its only right that as a girlishly obsessed Libertines mad doppleganger I give a quick of the cuff review to his new album.

Shotters Nation was an incoherent, unsure attempt to appeal to the wider audience since signing to major label Parlophone. Stephen Street did the best with what he had to work with. It was a bland and average album in my opinion that was caught between Doherty's desire to be the live artist troubador, the need to please older fans with guitar rock and Stephen Street trying to polish it off and make it marketable. The main source of the music an absolute mess of a human that could self implode, or worse, at any moment. Mr Doherty and Street's relationship has since blossomed.

Cleaner and leaner. New slick myspace. A decent, if saddening, documentary on MTV. A more focused one to one relationship between Street and Doherty has finally produced the coherent slick neo-britpop album that Shotters Nation aspired to be. This has the effect of making it feel like a new departure, phase in the musical career of the Libertine. Almost like the male equivalent of the eclectic Lily Allen pop that has delightfuly emerged.

What would once have been a love it or hate it stripped down drunken live acoustic slur of a song, has become a fine tuned pop song loaded with strings and cool sounds that are completely alien to his past. It sounds like he worked hard at this. Apparently he did. It sounds like he wants to be taken seriously as an artist. Even refers to himself as Peter Doherty now. Touches of the Andrew Coles about it lol

It works.

Easily taken as a standalone album, even an introductory album. Something the label would have demanded given the closeknit, closed minded attitude of the army of Libertines fans to anything divergent. The older tracks in the album to compensate for this.

Thats not saying that its a musical masterpiece. Lead single Last of the English Roses is probably one of the weaker tracks on the album. Its as meh as the video really. It contains a few of the obligatory revamped 10 year old demo tracks. In fact, as far as I can tell only "I Am The Rain", "1939 Returning", "A Little Death Around the Eyes", "Broken Love Song", "Salomé" and "Palace of Bone" are the only tracks that are less than 2ish years old. They obviously spotted this at the printing press when they subbed another old school choon "Lady Dont Fall Backwards" for "I Am the Rain" in the final cut. As far as I can remember there are no wild guitar songs. No electric. All acoustic if I recall. Pianos. Double Bass. Everything is measured. Neat. They are good though. Couldn't be called indierock. Its maturer music for the masses.

The lyrics in general, are general. Imagery of cathartic storms, cups of tea, flowers, stories, football in the council estate and bible stories. Gone are the screaming rants that longterm fans could try and draw paranoid conclusions from. This is not about Kate Moss or Barat et al. New beginnings.

This was probably intended as finally getting out all the old songs, finishing the chapter of post-Libertines to Babyshambles. And doing it to the best of his ability, proving there is still a musician in there beneath the tabloid reporting. Clearing the road for future musical expeditions to be taken seriously. Clearing the road for future work. His desk has been cleared of clutter. Attempt to rebuild the musical platform from which he can regain credibility. Difficult to say what form the next musical foray will take. Maybe Carl Barat to release a very similar album. Maybe a Babyshambles EP in the mould of this. Then probably the most eagerly anticipated reunion of recent times at the same time The Strokes get their act together.

Its a good album. You don't need to be part of the clique to listen to it or enjoy it. Stephen Street should have his name as an accredited artist on the cover. Its a nice, quaint indie folk britpop masculine-Lily Allen-type album. If that sounds like your bag, go fer it. I'll recommend it.

Threw Phantom on today earlier. It seems that the sales of tinned food and beans in particular is rising. Started quite the debate.

Its looking a lot to me that the recession isn't really bringing me down personally just yet, I'm always fairly skint anyway, more that everyone is being lowered down to my horrendous miserly level of beans and toast eating studentry! Even discovered that by cutting my own hair I can acquire myself an extra 3 pints in a week. Well, the rare week that I'd actually get a haircut lol

Erotic and Dystopic, Nick Cave Does it Again

Almost like a capstone on the long since foregone conclusion that Nick Cave is the greatest lyricist of his generation and probably one of the best of all time.

The Bad Seeds latest album features quite a few gems. Solid rock by numbers, with an air of freshness and selfworth that usually a bands atleast 14th (depending if you count Grinderman etc) album has given up striving for, about 5 or 6 albums hence. Westlife take note.

The final track, simply tacked on at the end; More News From Nowhere is subtle earth shattering stuff. Overtly obvious his own Desolation Row, its just 8 minutes of casual, smooth-paced poetry sang over an equally cool almost lounge music rock. Call backs to his Birthday Party days in the no wave guitar drone ominously stringing along in the background screaming in the quiet, mirroring the surreal and madness of the words. Gasping almost in shock you can imagine its this life in the guitar that sings the line "-let me out of here!- I cried", as to how he can be so aloof about what he is singing about. Insane necro drugged orgy cannibal cookery party just to note a few events in this debauchery fest. Works well with the rhythm guitar too, simple couple of fifths, cooly indulging in sliding up and down the fretboard here and there, as if seeping through the laid back, lusty ethos of the place. Each stroke a... stroke.

The contrast and hinted schizophrenia works a treat and adds extra layers of madness and texture to what could have just been construed as an excuse to read out some poetry on a rock album.

The video furthers this theme of strangeness, being out of place. For apparently only the second video ever, he is seen performing in a tshirt. Everyone else is a sleezey businessman in suits at a dank seedy lounge/stripclub. Nobody makes any quick jerking movements, not even Peaches Geldof manning the pole. Everything is smooth slow laidback and cool. Sedated by sin, gluttony. Surreal tacit tolerance of the unadulterated sinning all around. In fact Cave is the quickest mover (not saying much though). Ironic seen as though he's probably done more drugs than everyone else in the room!

Indeed, the album was released last year and this post is random for its timing and content. But... its just a fucking great song. Drink. It. In.

I've been following this thing update by update since first betas few years back. The "Firefox" of media players. It is, of course, Songbird: iTunes Killer

Like Firefox and iTunes mashed together and the entire thing is customisable top to bottom. Loads of great little addons like one that can get you the lyrics of almost any song you play... handy!

I don't use it often myself because I haven't worked out how to sort out my bookmarks and feeds on it, and if I recall its a bit bloaty to use. However, its a work continuously in evolution, gaining features with to-do lists of things that aren't even possible yet.

Of course, its main tag was that you could "play the net". At the time mp3 blogs were a relatively new phenomenon so I didn't quite cop what that meant. You can just dive onto Hype Machine and whatnot and it'll automatically make a little web playlist at the bottom of the page of the files on offer and easy drag and drop if you want to store and keep the mp3s. /videos of course.

I've seen it! Its the future!
